Bad weather, feeling unwell or have contagious symptoms?

Zoom lessons occur live at your scheduled lesson time. They're useful if you don't meet the wellness criteria outlines in my T&C or you want to have your lesson from the comfort of your own home. My students also use them for storm season.

If you don't have your instrument with you, don't stress! We can also do a "no strings" lesson where we cover some of the elements of music.

Headphones Recommended

NB: Please use headphones - otherwise I will not be able to hear your guitar due to Zoom's in-built noise suppression (which is designed to hear human voices, not guitars). We can disable Zoom's unhelpful noise suppression, but we can only do this if you're wearing headphones (to stop my own voice echoing back into your mic)

Zoom is free. It can be installed on phones, tablets, laptops and desktop computers. To download on Apple or Android devices, open the App/Play store on your device and search for Zoom. Apple or Windows computers, please visit https://zoom.us/download.

During your first Zoom lesson, I will spend 2 minutes instructing you on how to temporarily disable Zoom's noise suppression features (which are good for meetings, but bad for musical instruments).

Advantages of Online Zoom Lessons

• You don't have to live within travelling distance of my physical location
• If on a laptop or computer, you can record the lesson and refer to it while practicing
• You don't have to leave home
• If either of us are have symptoms we can continue lessons
• You get electronic copies of learning material to keep forever

Disadvantages of Online Zoom Lessons

• There is a slight delay, therefore we cannot play at the same time 
• Unflattering camera angles - We're probably both better looking in real life!
• Requires more prep for tutor
• The sound quality is not as good as real life (but we can improve the audio quality with a few minor tweaks in Zoom's settings if you're wearing headphones).
